“I Was Told Agents Can’t Reach Me!” — Don’t Fall for This Common Realtor Trick

Updated over 2 weeks ago

From time to time, we receive angry calls from frustrated sellers who have been contacted by traditional agents claiming they “couldn’t find the seller’s contact info.” These calls are alarming for sellers and understandably upsetting. But here’s the truth: this is a fear-based strategy designed to get you to cancel your MLS-only listing and sign a full-commission listing agreement with them.

Let’s break down what’s really happening—and why it’s important not to panic.

Realtor Trick #1: “No One Can Reach You”
This is one of the oldest tricks in the book. Agents call you and say something like:

“I’ve been trying to reach you, but there’s no contact information available or the company isn't reachable or returning my calls".

Their goal? To make you feel like your home is unmarketable or inaccessible, hoping you’ll cancel your flat fee listing and list with them instead—so they can earn a full commission.

The Reality: Your Contact Info Is Available

Let’s clear the air:

  • Your phone number is listed in the MLS for licensed agents to see directly.

  • Buyers who view your property on third-party websites (Zillow, Realtor.com, etc.) are shown Listed Simply’s 1-800 number.

  • When a buyer or agent calls that number, our system automatically forwards the call directly to you using our free call forwarding service.

  • If they choose to speak to a live representative, our team provides them with your contact information.

At Listed Simply, we don’t work with buyers—we pass all leads and inquiries directly to you. We’re here to support your sale, not compete for it.

What You Should Ask When You Get These Calls

If you receive a call from an agent who says they couldn’t find you, here are two questions you should always ask:

  1. “How did you get my contact information?”
If they “couldn’t find you,” how are they calling you now?

  2. “Do you have a buyer interested in my home?”
If the answer is no, the call is a sales pitch—not a legitimate buyer inquiry.

Why It’s Frustrating—for You and for Us

We know these calls are stressful. Many sellers call us, upset and feeling like we’ve done something wrong. But the truth is, you are being targeted by agents who use manipulation to scare you into switching services.

These tactics waste your time, damage trust, and disrupt our customer service team with avoidable complaints.

The Bottom Line

Your listing is working exactly as it should. Agents have access to your contact info, and buyers can reach you easily. If someone tells you otherwise, they’re using pressure to sell you something—not to help you sell your home.

We’re always here to answer questions and support your sale, but rest assured: your contact info is visible, your listing is live, and your home is being marketed exactly as promised.
